I dig you guys very merch.

A while back Leigh (who helps out with the mailing of the DVD's and shirt and hoddies and stuff, and is also an all-round epic human being) let me know that we still have some VERY few items of clothing left for sale, since many many people have been asking about it. Posting the little notice on Facebook about the left-over merch made me think about it all again, because it feels like I don't really think about that side of my "career" as much.

To be honest, I am ALWAYS nervous posting stuff like that, that's why I very very rarely do it, especially on Facebook and to 170,000+ people. I think the main reason why I don't like posting that stuff is because I am overly-sensitive to people possibly thinking I'm in this for the cash. Which isn't the case, at all or even close :) It has ALWAYS been this struggle inside me, because I need to eat and I need to have a roof over my head, but I absolutely HATE "asking" for money.

So, I just want to say that I appreciate your support. And if you buy a shirt or a hoodie or a DVD or a lesson from the website, then I appreciate that very very VERY much also. And if you don't buy any merch.. that's totally ok too, I still dig you. I never want this to be a guilt trip and I never want this to be all business. I love music and sincerity and passion with all my heart and I have a feeling you do too, that's why you're here.

So THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE SUPPORT, whether with youtube views, or prayers, or spreading the word, or with real-world money that help me pay my rent and buy food. It means way more to me that I can ever express in a few paragraphs of text.

Much love! ~c

Canada. Aboot. Eh

Ok, so they do NOT say "aboot" in Canada.. at least not as bad as I thought :) The "eh?" does creep up eeeeeveryhwere, especially in Eastern Canada. All in all.. loving Canada. And the people are awesome. And it's friggin coldddddddd.

I arrived in Canada in late January to work with Jared Falk and the dudes from freedrumlessons.com on a new product they will be launching. We announced the product at the live shows a few days ago, so if you haven't heard about it.. I'll just tell you now :)

It's called "The Cobus Method" and is ALL about how I play (and how TO play) drums by ear.. 100% by ear, no sheet music, no notations, no intimidating theory :) I taught myself how to play drums and I have always played by ear, this product takes it from the simplest and most basic priniciples up until where I am today. SO friggin stoked about this.. I don't want to give away too much, but we shot SO much material.. We wrote and recorded many very different styles of play-alongs (pop, hard rock, r&b, punk, etc) that you can view and/or listen to as bassdrum only, hands only, drums only, full mix, etc. aswell as using the drumless versions to jam along to yourself. Then we recorded a TON of instructional material and systems to learn existing song easily, learning grooves, fills.. and writing your own drumming parts.

My favorite part of the project, though, was the live band recordings. We (me, a guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist) wrote and recorded 5 brand new (and VERY stylistically different) songs in two days, with the WHOLE process captured on camera.. and finished up with one clean and final take of each song. I don't want to sound like those dudes on infomercials, I'm just so SO stoked about the scope and size of this project. It literally covers every little thing regarding playing drums by ear and THEN some :) If you want to, you can just check out www.cobusmethod.com for more details.

Then, Saturday I had my last drum clinic of this tour.. it was UNREAL. Sold out, FULL house.. with so many passionate dudes and dudettes attending. Got to play some drums, explain some of the shizzle I like using on the kit, and got to meet some incredible people. Goooooood day :)

We'll be hitting Toronto and surrounding areas for some sight-seeing in the coming days.. and then Monday night I am heading back to South Africa. Super sad to leave, though! This was my first tour, my mind is blown, my perspective is 100 times the size it was before I arrived, and it feels like this was the beginning of something much bigger. I am still taking everything in, so much has happened and it's been SO overwhelming, but I am incredibly thankful and very very excited about the road ahead.

This tour has also made me realise how very real the possibility is of meeting the people who made all of this possible in the first place.. YOU guys. Hanging out after clinics is my favorite part of everything :) STOKED for more opportunities like that.

Next blog post will be from back in South Africa! :) I cannot WAIT to speak some Afrikaans.. USA and Canada is friggin NEXT LEVEL, but I miss my home country.

Much love.
and thank you.

BACK! (not in black, though. sorry.)

I'll be BACH
what is UP!
been SUCH a long time since i wrote a blog post, have to apologize for that! :)

oi, i dont even KNOW where to begin.. such a lot of stuff happening at the moment. after the CP DVD project's production finished November last year i took some time off, had suchhhh an awesome vacation back home in Humansdorp (my happy place. for realz.) and really got some solid rest in ;) lugged a small version of my kit down there aswell, first time i practice back home since i left way back in 2004! was SUCH a crazy feeling.

when i left there in 2004 to go off to college i owned a really beat-down silver tama imperialstar kit and a zildjian planet Z cymbal set (ALL cracked) and when i started unpacking the kit i took down home for the holidays, i hit WAY hard that even though i left home owning that beat downnnn kit, i'm now back here, 5 years later, with a kit that has my name on. and the sickest cymbals. and the sickest hardware. UNREAL feeling, such a crazy thing to experience. trying my best not to end this like an after-school special.. but it goes to show what's possible if you do what you love, and if you do it passionately.

the second thing that hit me way hard, is that it's because of YOU guys checking out the videos.. rating, commenting, joining the fan page, asking questions on formspring (inbox is at 400+.. can NOT get it below 300, haha), bought DVD's, shirts, hoodies.. posted topics on the forums, send emails. YOU guys. that's huge. i've said this a million times, but after such a long time of not making blog posts.. i want to open with that :) THANK YOU. reading this. i appreciate it from the bottom of my south african heart.

ok, now some COOL news! :)
new series yooooooooooooooo! i am SO stoked, you guys dont even understand! i think it's because i haven't recorded in such a long time, but i can't remember that i've ever been this excited to record a new series. got SUCH a cool set-list.. stuff ranging from gut wrenching heavy metal (double bass yo..going to try my best.) to some epic anthems that will probably have me screaming into the mics, to the now mandatory 90's hit :) seriously so incredibly excited to record. the reason why i haven't recorded yet (if it was up to me it would have been launched LOOONG ago, very early January) is because i'm struggling to get a spot to record at church. you guys know i record at the church where i also play drums for the band, well, it seems it's SUPER busy now. like stuff going on ALL the time, so i can't get a 3-4 day gap so i can set up and record the new series :( i MIGHT have a chance in about a week and a half.. but i'll keep you guys posted, just keep an eye on the facebook fanpage for updates. going top shoot a TON of behind the scenes stuff this time, so you guys can see where i've recorded every single series thus far :)

there are also some other big stuff on the way, endorsements, and a pretty big announcement.. will let you guys know when the time is right :)

i think that's all for now. expect a blog post every week from now on. saweeet, check you guys in the forums! maximum respect and MAXIMUM appreciation for all the support.

2010 is going to friggin HUGE. true story.

much love.
